Play Therapy with Pre-teens and Teens

Therapists often struggle to find ways to effectively communicate with pre-teens and teens in counseling. Play therapy is a natural way to engage this age group in making needed changes and learning new skills. In this workshop, therapist will gain valuable insight into the working of the adolescent mind and how to build and maintain a therapeutic alliance with them.

Learning Objectives  

    Participants will:

    1. Learn at least 5 assessment tools for effective treatment planning for pre-teens and teens in play therapy.

    2. Understand the rationale and be able to select materials needed for counseling pre-teens and teens in a play therapy session.

    3. Know stages of developmental for children 12 to 18 and the impact on play therapy.

    4. Learn strategies to consult and advocate with the client, teachers, courts, agencies and parents.

    5. Understand the legal and ethics issues of working with pre-teens and teens in Play Therapy.

    6. Gain knowledge of the impact of culture when counseling pre-teens and teens.

8:30 am to 9:00 am - Registration and Refreshments
9:00 am to 12:00 pm - Morning Session
12:00 pm to 1:00 pm - Lunch (on your own)
1:00 pm to 4:15 pm - Afternoon Session

Handouts and Certificate of Attendance will be provided.

Continuing Education
As a providers for Colorado Play Therapy Training, Jane L. Johnson and Linda Klein are approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to play therapy. COPTT is an APT approved provider (#10-277).

This workshop will count as 6 hours continuing education for the Registered Play Therapist credential.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
We reserve the right to cancel this workshop in the event of insufficient registrations or other unforeseen circumstances in which event the pre-registration fee will be refunded.
A refund of your registration fee will be provided if a written request is received via mail, fax or email at least 1 week prior to the event.
